PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One person died and four suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-car collision Wednesday night on Southeast Tualatin Valley Highway, authorities said.
Hillsboro Police received a call shortly after 10 p.m. reporting a crash near Southeast Brookwood. Tualatin Valley Highway was closed in both directions overnight but has since reopened.
Witnesses said the driver of a Toyota Scion traveling east was driving recklessly and going faster than the recommended speed.
According to police, the Scion tried to pass a Honda Ridgeline and clipped the car before losing control and sliding into opposing lanes. The Scion was hit broadside by an SUV traveling west.
One person in the Scion died. Officials said four people were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. Those traveling in the Ridgeline sustained minor injuries.
Washington County Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate.
