UPDATE: Louisiana State Police have released the names of the two adults and ten-month-old who were killed in the crash.
Around 5 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash on US Hwy 61 south of Interstate 10 in St. James Parish. Through an investigation, Troopers learned that 31-year-old Keayette Wilkens was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze south on Hwy 61 at the same time a 2021 Kia Telluride was driving south on Hwy 61.
For reasons still under investigation, Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the left and crossed the median but reentered the southbound lane and hit the Kia. After hitting the Kia, the Chevrolet was hit by a 2008 Toyota Tacoma that was traveling southbound.
Wilkens and her two passengers, 52-year-old Angela Wilkens and 10-month-old Jacon Wilkens, were ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. They were not wearing seatbelts and were pronounced dead at the scene. The Kia and Toyota drivers sustained minor injuries and were wearing seatbelts.
As part of the investigation, toxicology samples were taken from all three drivers.
ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana State Police are working a three-vehicle fatal crash on Airline Hwy south of I-10.
Two adults and an infant were pronounced dead on the scene, according to LSP officials.
A preliminary investigation by state police found that a vehicle traveling northbound on Airline Hwy crossed the median and proceeded into the southbound lanes and hit a second vehicle. The first vehicle then was struck by a third vehicle.
