Peoria High girls basketball player Denali Craig-Edwards was voted as the Journal Star athlete of the week.

Craig-Edwards earned 47 percent of the 11,637 votes, beating out the Morton football team's offensive line (41 percent). The full results are below.

Craig-Edwards, a 5-foot-11 junior forward, was a double-double machine as the Lions went 3-0 this past week with wins over Rock Island, Pekin and Limestone. She went for 11 points and 11 rebounds with seven blocks and four steals in the 57-44 season-opening win over Rock Island. She added 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three blocks in Saturday's 64-29 win over Pekin. Hours later Craig-Edwards then added 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with five blocks, five assists and three steals in a victory against Limestone.

Despite losing 41-14 to Kankakee in Saturday's Class 5A semifinal, Morton's offensive line — Ian Mutchler, Brayden McMillan, Broc Schmidt, Andrew Hummel and James Sauder — deserves some love for paving the way one of the most memorable seasons by a running back in Peoria-area history. All-stater Seth Glatz rushed for 3,246 yards — second all-time in state history — and 45 touchdowns behind the Hogs.

The junior led the Knights to a 4-0 week and the title at Seneca's Integrated Seed Solutions Tournament. In the 60-50 win over Serena in the title game on Saturday, she went for 22 points, seven assists, four steals and five rebounds. May scored 21 points and dished out eight assists with four steals in Thursday's win over Flanagan-Woodland/Cornell. She was named all-tournament team with Ella Goodrich and Carolyn Megow.
