10 boys' high school basketball games to see in 2021-22

Staff Report The Herald-Times
North's JaQualon Roberts (24) goes up for a shot over South's Joey Bomba (11) during the Bloomington North versus Bloomington South sectional final at Bloomington High School South Saturday, March 6, 2021.

The fans are back so it's time to get ba to your favorite gym for a high school boys' basketball game this season.

Here are the top 10 games to see:

Dec. 11 Bloomington North vs. Franklin Central at Southport: Showcase event on  Saturday afternoon for the Cougars and another taste of Indianapolis area basketball following games with Mooresville and Center Grove.

Dec. 18 Bloomington South at Floyd Central: Highlanders figure to be one of the best teams in southeastern Indiana again. Last trip, the Panthers needed a last-second bucket in overtime to win.

Jan. 7 Bloomington South at Bloomington North: Rivalry game didn't take place last year until sectional final, so it should be an emotional contest and a full gym. A Conference Indiana title may be decided here, too.

Jan. 14-15 Edgewood at Owen Valley and at Greencastle: Big rivalry game every year at OV followed by third of four straight WIC road games and part of a 42-day stretch between home games for the Mustangs.

Jan. 21 Bloomington North at Evansville North: Huskies are expected to have three of the Evansville area's top players back this year. It'll be a long Friday bus ride for the Cougars who will have to return home for a conference game that Saturday.

Bloomington South's Trevor Taylor (3) drives to the basket against Castle's Isaiah Swope (1) during the Panthers' 68-65 overtime win last year.

Jan. 21 Bloomington South at Castle: This one has produced a thriller three years in a row (South is 3-0 by a margin of 13 points), including in overtime last season as Isaiah Swope (now at Southern Indiana) poured 32 points. Knights are rebuilding this year.

Edgewood's Caden Huttenlocker (10) scoops up the ball after stealing it from Northview's Brevin Cooper (2) during the fourth quarter of last year's 3A Owen Valley Sectional championship game in Spencer.

Feb. 15 Northview at Edgewood: Rematch of last year's sectional final could be a huge game for both teams in terms of a WIC title. The Mustangs got both meetings in 2019-20 and the Knights returned the favor last year.

Jan. 21 Lighthouse at Columbus Christian: It's become a big-time rivalry game for both schools in front of a full gym. There's extra meaning now with both teams in the Southern Roads Conference.

Jan. 21 Eastern Greene at Bloomfield: Not only a huge SWIAC and rivalry game, but the Greene County Keg will be on the line. Eastern picked it up last year after knocking off Linton.

Feb. 25 New Albany at Bloomington North: Final games of the regular season, (Cougars are at Floyd Central on the 18th), should give North an idea of where it's at heading into the postseason.
