Weekly COVID-19 deaths include person in their 20s

Eight Wichita County residents died from COVID-19 in the week ending Friday. 

The deaths included one person in their 20s and another in their 30s. Others included a person in their 50s, three in their 60s, one in their 70s and one in their 80s. 

Twenty four new cases of the virus were reported on Friday, bringing the weekly total of new cases to 151. Of those new cases, 82 percent were not vaccinated.

A total of 45 hospitalizations of county residents was reported Friday. Of those, 12 were breakthrough cases, meaning the patient caught the virus despite being vaccinated. Among the 12, two are people who had suffered from COVID-19 before.Thirteen patients were in critical condition.

To date, Wichita Count has recorded 909 breakthrough cases and 197 reinfections. The positivity rate among those tested dropped to 10 percent.
