Early voting begins on Saturday for the general election in Onondaga County, and at the Board of Elections, they've got their poll pads prepped and ready to go to polling places whether you decide to vote early or go in person on Election Day.

You can also vote absentee and request a ballot up until the day before Election Day. More than 8,700 absentees were requested from the county board of elections with more than 3,000 already returned.

"That is abnormally high for a local year. Obviously more people are able to do absentee ballots so that's part of it, but that usually indicates more turnout in traditional years," said Democratic Election Commissioner Dustin Czarny.

"3,000 more than we had last time. But all lot of this is left over from people who wanted to do absentees last year and wanted to become permanent absentee voters," added Republican Election Commissioner Michele Sardo.

There's also five propositions on the other side of your ballot, so don't forget to turn it around. They're on redistricting, the environment, same-day voter registration, eliminating the excuse for absentee voting, and the City of New York court system. The Town and Village of Camillus and the Village of Tully have marijuana dispensary propositions.

"Our local candidates and your local elections are very important, because they're the ones that can go to your assembly and your senate and your congressmen, to help you out and get your further on what you want to take care of and voicing your opinions on things," said Sardo.

The last day you can cast an early vote is on Halloween. Find out where you can vote early here.
