Onions sold in August at Hy-Vee grocery stores are those affected by a current national recall and investigation by the FDA for onions linked with salmonella outbreak.

On Friday, Hy-Vee announced that its onions may have been affected in a recall happening nationwide, but that does not include its onions currently being sold in stores.

The potentially impacted onions would have been sold at Hy-Vee stores between Aug. 13 and Sept. 1 2021.

The affected product was the three pound bag of yellow onions sold during that time period. Supplier Capitol City Fruit notified Hy-Vee that in August the grocer had received a shipment of onions that are part of the recall.

The affected onions are no longer available at any Hy-Vee stores, but consumers may have product remaining in storage or freezers, or in canned or frozen goods produced with the affected onions and should discard all of the product or return it to the store for a full refund.

Additional information on the recall is available on the Food & Drug Administration’s page.
