2 face charges in Adams County
A man facing two aggravated assault charges was arrested inside an apartment where deputies said they found illegal drugs and guns.
Members of the Adams County Special Operations Group executed a search warrant early Friday at Holiday Apartments. Sheriff Travis Patten said George Smith, Dantashia McGuire and three young children were inside the apartment.
Deputies searched the apartment and inside the master bedroom found about 12 grams of methamphetamine, 58 grams of marijuana, about 33 ecstasy tablets and a loaded .380 pistol, Patten said in a news release.
Smith and McGuire were arrested and charged with possession with intent, Patten said. McGuire was also charged with harboring a fugitive.
"Smith had active felony warrants for two counts of aggravated assault and deputies had been to the residence on a previous occasion looking for Smith," Patten said in the release. "McGuire knew that Smith had active felony warrants for his arrest."
Smith was out on bond for charges from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office for possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, and drug possession from an incident that occurred on April 12, the ACSO said. Smith was also out on felony bond for charges from the Natchez Police Department for four counts of aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm for an incident that occurred on June 11, 2019.
