DELEWARE WATER GAP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Gas prices are skyrocketing in the U.S. As demand has gone up with the economy still recovering from the pandemic. Those prices are especially high in Pennsylvania.

In the Delaware Water Gap, the fall foliage is a sight to see many coming in from out of state to hike, boat, and enjoy the views.

“Today, we’re going to put the ole boat in the Delaware River and kill a little time, maybe have a little lunch out on the water. Try to catch a few fish,” said Mel Ellison New Jersey Resident.

Gellison noticed the higher prices and sees Pennsylvanians commuting to jersey to save a buck.

“You see it all the time. They come right over the bridge, and then they’ll go into the town of Columbia on 46, there’s a little gas station on the left and I often see Pennsylvania tags on the cars filling up and going back across the border,” said Gellison.

Crossing into new jersey from the Delaware Water Gap gas will cost you $3.47 cents paying with cash. Compared to its New Jersey Sunoco gas station just six miles away, the gas station in Pennsylvania shows a 17 cent price increase for regular.

Since Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gas has increased by four cents, according to a report by AAA.

The report states the higher demand alongside elevated crude prices has put upward market pressure on pump prices. Those pump prices will likely rise if crude prices stay high.

“I wish that gas prices were cheaper than this,” said Saul Reyes, Owner of Saul Reyes Contracting LLC.

Reyes buys a lot of gasoline for his contracting company and says he hopes the prices drop.

“Hopefully soon. I mean this truck alone is about $70 every three days to put in gas. It is pretty pricey. Right now, I’m not even at half a tank and it already took $31,” said Reyes

“You’ll start to see gas prices come down as we get by into next year In 2022. I don’t see anything that’s going to happen in the meantime that’s going to significantly reduce gas prices,” said President Biden in a CNN Town Hall.
