GALAX, Va. (WFXR) — The Galax Police Department took two people from Patrick County into custody on Thursday in connection with a grand larceny case that happened earlier in October.

According to the department, two people reportedly stole tools from a construction site on Cranberry Road on Oct. 9. Authorities say the pair was driving a white Ford car with a missing or broken driver’s side headlight and possible damage to the driver’s door or front fender area.

Then, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, Capt. J.R. Cox and Sgt. D.D. Alley saw that car traveling north on Route 52 in the Cana community of Carroll County, officials say.

According to police, the car came to a stop in Fancy Gap and authorities arrested 35-year-old Carter D. Zeimke and 27-year-old Ayla N. Janow — both from Ararat — for grand larceny and destruction of property.

Police seized the car as evidence and brought it back to the Galax Police Department to search it.

The department tells WFXR News that stolen property from the Oct. 9 theft was recovered from the car and from a Patrick County home. Additional property was also located out of state and will soon be recovered.

Zeimke and Janow are reportedly being held in the New River Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond pending a hearing in Galax Court on Friday, Oct. 22.

The Galax Police Department received assistance from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police.
