Buried beneath the pavement of a Staten Island parking lot is the presumed site of a cemetery that served as the final resting place for formerly enslaved Black people.

The cemetery has been covered up for decades. But if filmmaker Heather Quinlan can find the support she’s seeking, there could soon be a permanent memorial there.

NY1 spoke with Quinlan about this lost part of Staten Island’s history.
