Second death at Augusta Canal this month being investigated as suspicious

A suspicious death investigation is underway after a Marietta, Ga., man was found dead Friday in the Augusta Canal.

Korey James Adams, 32, was pulled from the Augusta Canal on Friday morning. According to Coroner Mark Bowen, his office received a call around 9 a.m. about a body being found in the canal behind Enterprise Mill.

Adams was positively identified through fingerprints and pronounced dead on the scene at 9:35 a.m. An autopsy has been scheduled at the GBI Lab.

This is the second body found at the Augusta Canal this month.

On Oct. 1, Kenneth Dawson, 69, was found floating in the canal near 12th and Telfair streets. He is believed to have possibly drowned.

Dawson, who was homeless, was removed from the canal by the Augusta Fire Department and pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.
