Pennsylvania State Police on Thursday announced the death of Trooper Dung X. Martinez, who passed away after being hospitalized.

Trooper Martinez, 57, was assigned to Troop T in the King of Prussia area.

"Our department expresses deep sorrow for the sudden loss of a colleague and friend," said Colonel Evanchick. "We wish Trooper Martinez's family and friends comfort and peace during this difficult time and ask Pennsylvanians to keep them in their thoughts."

Trooper Martinez enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police in 2000 and graduated with the 107th cadet class, according to a media release.

He was also awarded the Blooming Grove Service Award in 2014 for his assistance in the manhunt of Eric Frein, who had ambushed two state troopers, killing one of them, outside of a barracks.
