With Matt Corral injury status in question this weekend, here's some things to know about Ole Miss backup quarterback Luke Altmyer.
He was a high-profile instate recruit
Altmyer was a four-star recruit out of Starkville who ranked as a top five recruit in Mississippi out of Starkville High. He was an All-State selection his junior and senior years and was a 2021 Under Armour All-American honoree. He arrived to Oxford in the 2021 recruiting class as an early enrollee.
His dad works for Mississippi State
His father, Dr. Chad Altmyer, has been the team orthopedic surgeon for Mississippi State since 2004. He is also a sports medicine doctor for local high schools in the Columbus area. He has worked with the East Mississippi Community College, better known as Last Chance U on Netflix. He also has worked with the Mississippi University for Women athletic department providing sports medicine care.
He has a limited sample size
So far this season, Altmyer has thrown four passes that have all fallen incomplete. He threw three against Austin Peay and one against Tennessee. Against Austin Peay, he had a 14-yard run. In the Grove Bowl spring game he threw for 18 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He had three rushes for minus-16 yards.
