PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Friday officially kicked off the 34th Annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign to benefit the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service.
CityLink has hosted the food drive for the past three decades with the goal of eliminating hunger in the city.
This year marks the return of the collection of physical food donations to fill the vintage 1975 CityLink bus.
Representatives from Friendship House, CityLink, and Kroger all gathered at the Kroger on Lindbergh Drive Friday morning to announce this year’s goal to collect 10 tons of food for the Friendship House’s food pantry.
“We love being that source of opportunities for families and to provide for them,” Marcellus Sommerville, CEO of Friendship House, said. “So, I think it just helps to curb the gap when families are down in a month and they can just come to the Friendship House and grab some food or a bag and help sustain some of that financial stability in their lives.”
“With the pandemic, there is a lot of insecurity out there not only with food but just everyday life and so part of Kroger’s goal is to end hunger in every community that we serve in,” Josh Marshall, store manager of Kroger, said.
Kroger made the first donation of 100 flats of non-perishable food.
