Mike Kruger moved his business GV Alternatives to this location here on curry road in Rotterdam, since it has more space. His grand opening is Friday, and he may want to put some new kinds of products in this space to compliment his hemp products.

“More space new beginning over here. Little more opportunity for the future if we decide to go down a different road," Kruger said.

"Would that road be marijuana," he was asked.

“Potentially we’re not ruling it out it’s definitely a possibility," Kruger said.

Kruger says marijuana would help him recover the nearly 60,000 dollars he lost when he had to throw out his flavored vaping products after the state banned them in May of last year.

“Any product that you’re adding to your shelves will be beneficial. We will see there’s a lot left to be written," Kruger said.

He’s talking about upcoming state regulations, which haven’t been written yet for selling marijuana. Kruger hopes those would be business friendly. The marijuana regulation and taxation act became law in March, and Kruger hopes that the state’s taxes on marijuana won’t be too burdensome on him. Otherwise, he’d have to charge more for the product.

“The taxes are very very significant that’s why we have to wait and see the regulations because it looks like it could be an unattractive and un-lucrative business in New York State," Kruger said.

Talks about recreational marijuana are still in the early stages.

The cannabis control board did meet Thursday to approve draft regulations about home grown medical marijuana. They plan to allow:

Three mature and immature plants for each person,

with a limit of six mature and immature plants per private residence.

The executive director of the office of cannabis management also announced that nearly 203,000 marijuana related charges are being blocked from criminal background searches and are in process of being expunged.

The public comment period will be 60 days for the medical marijuana growing draft regulations.
