Victim identified in South End homicide

Police charged a man with murder following a deadly shooting near the Dowd YMCA in Charlotte's South End Thursday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man early Friday in connection with a deadly shooting in Charlotte's South End Thursday night. 

CMPD was called to a reported shooting in the 1200 block of South Caldwell Street, near the Dowd YMCA and South Boulevard. When officers got to the area, they found 46-year-old Keith Griffin dead from a gunshot wound. 

Detectives identified Christopher Boulware, 51, as a suspect. He was taken into custody and interviewed with homicide detectives. Following that interview, Boulware was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation is ongoing. Any person with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS to speak directly with CMPD homicide detectives. Witnesses may also call CMPD's Crime Stoppers tip line at 704-334-1600.
