Child hospitalized, man sought after crash in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — A nine-year-old girl was taken to the hospital and authorities are searching for a man after a crash Thursday evening, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened on Camp Oliver Road near Oak Grove in west Jefferson County.

The sheriff's office said words were exchanged between passengers in two different vehicles after the crash.

One of the vehicles involved had only a male driver and the other vehicle had a family inside.

The male driver fled into a nearby wooded area after the crash.

As of 8:00 p.m., authorities were actively searching for the man.

No details on the child's condition were given, but authorities said she is expected to be okay.
