DETROIT (WWJ) -- The search is on for three suspects who posed as police officers while robbing two women in Detroit early Thursday morning.

Detroit police say around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, two women were sitting at a car near a Project Greenlight location in the 700 block of Covington Drive -- near Palmer Park, just north of McNichols Road -- when two suspects approached them.

The two men were posing as police officers and told the victims they were responding to a call they had received, according to the Detroit Police Department.

Both men were wearing blue and brass badges around their necks.

The suspects proceeded to take the victims’ keys and two purses, before walking to their white Pontiac G6, which was parked down the street from the spot of the incident.

Surveillance video shows the women following the men as they were walking away, but one of the men pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the women. That’s when they stopped following the suspects, who got in the car and fled east down Covington, driving in reverse.

A while after the suspects left the area, they were spotted at a Project Greenlight gas station about nine miles away, on Mack Avenue, near Van Dyke.

Authorities have released images of two suspects and the vehicle they were driving, which has no license plate and a black paint mark on the driver’s side door. Police say that door is also missing a handle and all four tires are missing hubcaps.

The other suspect is described as a black male, approximately 25-30 years old. Authorities say he is about 5-foot-7, 130 lbs., with a goatee. He was wearing a black jean hoodie and blue jeans.

Authorities say a third suspect was involved, but they did not have a description available.
