After being shut down for months, the Missoula Community Theatre is back on stage with its production of "Nunsense Jamboree."

For the cast and crew, being back on stage feels like a homecoming.

“Being back in the rehearsal studio with the directors and with the other actors, it's been really great,” said cast member Jesse Heuermann. “That's the part I missed the most and now getting to share it with the audience.”

The community theater troupe is putting on a comedy, something Director Michael McGill says is needed after a long pandemic year.

“I think we need a comedy. I think right now comic relief -- heavy on the relief,” said McGill.

This play not only marks the start of the theater season but will also be McGill’s last play as the executive director of MCT.

“This show in particular is really special, because it's Michael's last as the executive director at MCT,” said Heuermann. “We didn't know that when we auditioned, but it definitely puts a little bit of extra momentum behind the entire cast.”

There will be some new COVID-19 precautions at the theater this season. Masks will be mandatory for the performers as well as the audience, there is a new tiered seating system, and the theater will be at half-capacity.

“We've taken all the precautions. And, of course, we've got reduced capacities and things like that,” said McGill.

Regardless of the new changes, McGill thinks the community will still come out to enjoy some live entertainment.

“It’s one of those things that I'm just yearning for. And I think a lot of people are -- it's to get back into the business that we're in,” said McGill.

"Nunsense Jamboree" runs Oct. 21-31. Tickets can be found here.
