The Thurston County Sheriff's Office is now investigating a deadly crash that involved a Nebraska State Patrol investigator.
The crash happened this morning near Walthill. The NSP investigator was driving south in an unmarked car on Highway 77 when it struck a pedestrian on the highway. The person was an adult female. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Nebraska state patrol, preliminary investigation showed the victim had left a home on the side of Highway 77 and was crossing the road when she was hit.
“We are heartbroken at this tragic incident,” Colonel John Bolduc said. “Our condolences are with the family of the pedestrian and our thoughts are also with our investigator who was involved in this unfortunate situation.”
The county sheriff's office is leading the investigation now, with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office also providing assistance.
