A 23-year-old San Diego man has been arrested and charged in the July death of Hermosa Beach resident Jeffrey Roderick Woods.

Joshua Dirnu was taken into custody Tuesday without incident by officers of the Carlsbad Police Department. He remains in jail awaiting trial.

According to Hermosa Beach police Sgt. Mick Gaglia, Woods, 50, was attacked in the 1600 block of Hermosa Avenue and was found unconscious and bleeding by first responders at 3:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
