Good morning, Taunton! Today is Friday, Oct. 22. Have you gotten your Halloween candy squared away yet? You might think it's too early, but it's not. Halloween is just over a week away!

Candy corn originated in the late 19th century and today is one of most beloved -- and most disliked Halloween candies.

For now, though, let's focus on today's top stories:

Increased police presence at Taunton High School

Taunton police are investigating after a threat was found on a bathroom wall at Taunton High School. Officials do not believe the threat to be credible at this time, Superintendent of Schools John Cabral and Taunton Police Chief Edward Walsh said in a joint statement Wednesday evening.

"Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an extra police presence at Taunton High School this week," Walsh and Cabral said in a statement.

They did not specify the nature of the threat.

Drive-thru trick-or-treat

Berkley Fire Rescue is hosting a drive-thru trick-or-treat on Halloween afternoon. Children are encouraged to dress in costume! Fire Rescue will be handing out free candy while supplies last. More information, right here.

Salute to veterans in Taunton

On Thursday, Nov. 11, starting at 11 a.m., Veterans of Sgt. Shane Duffy American Legion Post 500, David Adams VFW Post 611, DAV Chapter 57 and the Taunton Area Vietnam Veterans will be assembling on Taunton Green at the World War I "Dough Boy" memorial to begin their annual salute to Taunton veterans who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. There will also be a special ceremony to honor the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
