LAS CRUCES - The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office identified a woman who was found dead last week.

Caroline Frances Cherry, 34, was discovered by a passerby Oct. 15 in the desert area south of Las Cruces and west of Mesquite.

Authorities had previously called on the public to help identify her shortly after Cherry's body was discovered. Now, Sheriff Kim Stewert told the Sun-News that authorities believe Cherry's death was not an accident was not the result of suicide.

"Cherry was not from this area," deputies said in a news release. "Authorities believe that she may have had ties with someone in Doña Ana, El Paso County.

Deputies asked that anyone with any information contact Bo Nevarez at robertn@donaanacounty.org.
