Lockdown Drill Triggers Full Police Response In West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — Officials at the Engineering and Science University Magnet School in West Haven are apologizing for failing to notify local police of a planned lockdown drill on Thursday.

A lockdown drill at Engineering and Science University triggered a “full response” from the West Haven Police Department and the University of New Haven police, according to officials. Engineering and Science University Magnet School is part of the New Haven Public School System and located at 500 Boston Post Rd. in West Haven.

“We are reviewing our protocols and procedures to ensure we appropriately notify the WHPD and UNH in the event of a drill,” Justin Harmon, a spokesperson for New Haven Public Schools, wrote in an email. “We regret the stress caused within the school community by this event and apologize to the WHPD and UNH for our error. We thank students and staff who responded appropriately to the drill, and the WHPD and UNH for their readiness on behalf of our community safety.”
