STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A major thoroughfare in Starkville is about to get a pop of color.

The city is one of 26 to receive a grant from the Bloomberg Asphalt Art Initiative Grant.

The 25,000 dollar grant will be used on Starkville’s University Drive Corridor Connections Project.

As part of the project, designs will be painted in intersections along University Drive from Camp Street to Washington Street.

Planners want to create a visible connection between the city and the Mississippi State Campus.

“We want to develop a really robust community engagement plan, so that we can get feedback, not only from local residents, MSU students, and also alumni, anybody who has an interest in the City of Starkville,” said Leah Kemp, Director of Carl Small Town Center.

Weather, community events, and other roadworks will determine the start date, but organizers plan on beginning painting early next year.
