Tallahassee police are investigating a daytime shooting after finding a man with gunshot wounds in an apartment complex parking lot.

Officers say the shooting happened at 1 p.m. Thursday on Corvallis Avenue, inside the University Green Student Condominiums off Tennessee Street. The gated community is marketed as "a new luxury student apartment complex minutes from FSU, TCC, & FAMU."

Tallahassee Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Turner said the shooting happened on the complex grounds.

Police have released few details of the investigation but say the man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police and the SWAT team were at the same block and apartment complex earlier this month when an armed man barricaded himself in an apartment after police say he briefly held hostages inside. That sparked an hours-long standoff and negotiations with police, before the man was taken into custody peacefully.

The shooting is the 61st this year in the capital city and county. At least 40 have been injured and 23 have been killed in 2021, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.

The gunfire came two days after a drive-by shooting that targeted a group of teens. No one was injured in that shooting.
