Pinellas County residents traveling between South Pasadena and St. Pete Beach can expect more westbound traffic as construction results in a temporary lane closure on the Corey Causeway Bridge.

Beginning Thursday, a Pinellas County contractor is working to remove an out-of-service reclaimed water pipe beneath the bridge, county officials said. During construction, westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane.

The lane closure, extending from Matthews Road South to Sun Island Drive South, will be in place until construction concludes. The expected completion date is Nov. 11.

In addition to the effect on motor vehicle traffic, the construction may affect vessel traffic on the Intracoastal Waterway, as barges will be used during the pipe removal.

The pipe removal will complete the final phase of the Pinellas County Utilities project, which will provide reclaimed water service to about 4,300 customers south of the bridge in South Pasadena, St. Pete Beach and Tierra Verde, county officials said.
