BPD: Help identify suspect they say robbed, beat elderly person

The Birmingham Police Department is asking for help identifying the person they believe is responsible for robbing and beating an elderly person.

The incident took place on October 12, 2021 inside the Jefferson Avenue Food Mart on Jefferson Avenue.

While the elderly community member was purchasing items from the store, the suspect grabbed cash from them and hit them in the back of the head several times with a handgun before running from the store.

The victim was has been hospitalized due to the injuries.
