A suspect has been arrested in a Wednesday homicide in North Providence, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at 4 Smithfield Rd. at around 7:44 p.m. on Wednesday, the North Providence Police Department said.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Torrezz Lumpkins, had been stabbed and had a "severe injury to his neck area," police said.

Lumpkins was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Mark Santilli, who lives at the Smithfield Road address, was arrested and charged with murder.

An arraignment for Santilli, 59, was set for Thursday at 3rd District Court, Warwick. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Police say the incident is under investigation.

"The North Providence Police Department would like to inform the public this is an isolated incident where the victim and the suspect knew each other," a statement from the department said.
