Police in Jefferson County have charged a Brookville man following an investigation into alleged child abuse, according to a criminal complaint.

Brookville police say 45-year-old Anthony Brosius faces charges of felony child endangerment, simple assault, aggravated assault and harassment, according to court documents.

Authorities say on Sept. 18, police received a report of suspected child endangerment, from the victim's mother, who alleged that Brosius had beaten her child.

The complaint states that Brosius had contacted the child's mother to report that the child had used a family member's credit card to make an unauthorized purchase, and that he (Brosius) "was going to flip out."

The victim's mother reported that the child had suffered bruises on his/her leg, chest and arm, police say.

Upon further investigation, police learned that Brosius had pushed the child against the wall and repeatedly slammed the child's head against it.

The victim told police that Brosius then punched the child in the chest, according to the affidavit.

Police say the victim's mother also showed them text messages, between her and Brosius, in which she questioned him about the alleged abuse.

Police say Brosius admitted to the abuse in the messages and threatened the victim's mother with more abuse.

During the course of the investigation, police also discovered that this was not an isolated incident.

Brosius has since been arraigned and is currently out on unsecured $30,000 bail, online court records show.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 18.
