More than half a dozen teens were the intended target of a drive-by shooting Tuesday night, the latest in an alarming rash of teen gun violence.

The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating the shooting on Karen Lane off Jackson Bluff Road but have yet to develop a suspect or description of the vehicle involved, said Spokeswoman Alicia Turner.

A video posted to Twitter showed the car speeding by with the sound of gunshots echoing through the neighborhood.

Back story:

No injuries were reported in the shooting, which happened at about 10:45 p.m, and no incident alert was issue by TPD, which typically only reports shootings when someone is injured. The seven teen-agers who were in the area when gunfire rang out were between 14 and 17 years old.

The incident is the latest in a string of teen-connected gun violence in Tallahassee. The shootings and a surge of teens bringing firearms onto school grounds prompted a town hall by the TPD Citizens Advisory Council and discussions at the Leon County School District.

Back story:

Earlier this month, five people were injured in three separate shootings in an 8-hour span. All the victims were between the ages of 15 and 22. Since the start of the school year in August, eight students have been charged with bringing a weapon to school. Most have told police its because they don't feel safe.

The shooting is the 40th this year in the capital city and county. At least 39 have been injured and 23 have been killed in 2021, according to to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.
