The scheduled closure of westbound Interstate 94 from Wabasha Street to Marion Street in St. Paul this weekend has been canceled, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The pavement repairs in the area are now expected to be completed next spring. The original work was to close the area from Friday through Monday.

These closures are part of a two-year project for I-94 and Interstate 35E to repair and resurface the road and improve pedestrian and bicycle accessibility along  I-94 from Western Avenue to Mounds Boulevard. Similar work will be done along I-35E between I-94  and University Avenue.

When work is done in the fall of 2022, MnDOT officials say road surfaces will be safer, smoother and longer lasting and have better pedestrian and bicycle access.

I-94 westbound, which has been reduced to two lanes between Western Avenue and St. Peter Street, is expected to fully reopen by mid-November. Eight highway exit and entrance ramps impacted by the closures will also reopen, including I-94 ramps to Marion, Fifth, 10th and 12th streets.
