ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety has identified the bodies found in an Ashwaubenon duplex Thursday.

According to a release, the persons are identified as 26-year-old Bryan Morales from Green Bay and 27-year-old Karissa Peronto from Ashwaubenon.

Public Safety officials say they believe no one else is involved and the public is not in danger.

Prevea Health officials released two statements regarding Peronto. The first statement, which they say came from Peronto’s family, is as follows:

Our family is deeply saddened as we mourn the loss of a truly amazing daughter, sister, and friend. Karissa was not only dearly loved by our family, but all of those whose lives she touched. Karissa was a bright and shining light to many and will be dearly missed. She cared deeply about others which was evident in her work as a nurse, she is our own health care hero. We are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers for our family, and kindly request privacy during this very difficult time.”

Prevea Health President and CEO, Dr. Ashok Rai, also gave the following statement:

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Karissa Peronto, a beloved member of the Prevea family. We extend our deepest sympathies to Karissa’s family, friends, and all those who knew and loved her.

UPDATE: Bodies of man & woman found inside Ashwaubenon duplex, shelter-in-place advisory lifted

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – The active incident that began in Ashwaubenon on Thursday morning has concluded after police say they discovered two dead bodies at the scene of the crime.

The incident began at around 10 a.m. when police initiated a welfare check at a duplex located near the 2300 block of Cedar Ridge. While approaching the residence, police say they heard ‘scuffles and gunshots coming from inside of the building.

This prompted authorities to quickly evacuate nearby residents and alert those in the area to shelter-in-place.

Police then attempted to make contact within the duplex, however, after their attempts proved to be unsuccessful, the Brown County SWAT team sent in a camera which detected two dead bodies located in the garage.

Shortly after, law enforcement made entry into the residence and confirmed the two dead bodies belonged to a man and woman and were located in the same area where police had previously reported hearing ‘scuffles’ and gunshots.

The names of the victims are being withheld at this time pending family notification. The incident is no longer active and that the shelter-in-place advisory has been lifted.

Police report an investigation into this incident remains ongoing at this time. Local 5 will continue to update this story as it progresses.

HAPPENING NOW: Suspect in Ashwaubenon active incident has ‘violent criminal history’, avoid Cedar Ridge area

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Brown County SWAT Team, are actively attempting to make contact within a residence where a suspect with a violent criminal history and victim(s) are located.

According to Ashwaubenon Public Safety, at around 10:07 a.m. police received a call from a mother who was concerned when her daughter did not show up for work. Officers then reportedly initiated a welfare check.

At around 10:20 a.m., police say they arrived at the duplex located near the 2300 block of Cedar Ridge. As police approached the scene, police say they heard a ‘scuffle’ in the garage and shots being fired inside the residence.

Police report they can’t confirm that the shots fired didn’t injure anyone inside the duplex. No shots were reportedly fired by officers.

Police have evacuated the immediate building and have alerted all others near the area to shelter in place.

Officials say the suspect in this incident has a violent criminal history. Police are currently trying to make contact within the residence and believe that the general public is not in danger at this time.

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – Residents near Cedar Ridge in Ashwaubenon are being advised to shelter in place after shots were heard in the area.

The alert, sent at 11 a.m., follows an active incident that occurred on Thursday morning, near the 2300 block of Cedar Ridge. There is a heavy police presence in the area and roads near Cormier Road and North Road have been blocked to the public.

Local 5 has contacted the Ashwaubenon School District, and the district has confirmed that the building and its students are not in lockdown at this time, but district officials are currently in contact with the police. No further information is available at this time.
