QUINCY — The new Target store in North Quincy has opened its doors and is welcoming visitors to shop its 40,000-square-foot "small-format" location at The Abby.

The Target opened four days ahead of schedule and marks the retail giant's first Quincy location. The shop departments include home décor, clothing, groceries, beauty products, a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks. It also offers drive-up and online order pickup.

A Target store has opened at 289 Hancock St. in Quincy.

A ribbon-cutting and grand opening will be held Sunday, Oct. 24.

Target says this is its 38th store to open in the Boston area in the last 22 years, its first in Quincy and its 10th small-format location.

The store is in the bottom floor of The Abby, a new residential development at the North Quincy T Station. Its address is 289 Hancock St.

The Abby complex opened the first phase of what will eventually be a 610-unit mixed-use development in June. The development will include three buildings that will contain apartments, 45,000 square feet of retail space and more than 1,500 parking spots for both the MBTA and the tenants.

The first building, finished this summer, has 218 units. The second residential building will contain many of the amenities for the development and houses the Target.

The first phase of a three-building residential apartment complex called The Abby sits over the North Quincy MBTA station. The project will have several retail spaces and be anchored by a Target store.

The project broke ground in 2019 and is named after Abigail Adams, the second first lady of the United States.
