BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham metro residents awoke to a wet Thursday, as rain and thunder began before the sun came up. A flood advisory has been issued for parts of the Birmingham metro, including Hoover, Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook.

The NWS maintains a low-end "marginal risk" of severe thunderstorms for northeast Alabama today. With most of the Birmingham area still tending to flood damage from earlier in the month, Thursday's weather is cause for alarm.

"A few storms there could produce small hail and gusty winds this afternoon and early tonight, but with limited instability and weak dynamic forcing, the overall threat is pretty low," meteorologist James Spann said. "Rain amounts should be less then one-half inch through tonight."

"The sky will clear late tonight as a new surge of dry air moves into the state," Spann said. "Friday will be a beautiful autumn day with sunshine in full supply and a high between 72 and 76 degrees."
