The incident started when officers were called to investigate an SUV that had stopped in the middle of Pioneer Parkway near Daniel Drive Wednesday afternoon. The driver appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel. Police say when they made contact, the man refused to get out of the vehicle and drove off.

The man stopped again near Daniel Drive and Arkansas Lane, where officers tried to place him under arrest. He again refused to get out of the car and drove off.

The chase ended when the driver pulled into a cul-de-sac on Carla Court. Arlington police say one of the officers had gotten out of his patrol vehicle, and the driver made a u-turn and aimed the SUV at him. That officer opened fire and the driver was hit. He was taken to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries.

Police are conducting an administrative investigation and a criminal investigation into the shooting.
