A semi-trailer struck a Montana Motor Carrier Service patrol truck on Interstate-94 Tuesday.

It happened in between Glendive and Wibaux, leading to the North Dakota boarder.

MCS Officer, Jacob Feistand, responded to two disabled semi-trailers that broke down nearly side-by-side.

Lights on Feistand’s MCS F-150 Ford pickup truck flashed to alert oncoming traffic of the disruption. But it didn’t stop a third semi-trailer from striking the MCS vehicle. Feistand was sitting in the driver seat inside.

The roadway was wet, and a slushy mix of snow lined the highway’s shoulder. But an inattentive driver contributed to the crash, not weather conditions, according to MCS Captain Brian Dandrea.

Feistand was released from the hospital the same day with minor injuries.

Montana Highway Patrol issued several citations to the driver of semi-trailer.

An investigation of the accident is ongoing.
