Linda Bishop says she's still trying to wrap her mind around what happened to her uncle, Samuel Bishop, Tuesday night.

“He was close to everybody,” said Linda Bishop. We're trying to find out what happened.“

Mobile Police say when officers responded to a car that crashed into St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church shortly after 7p.m., they found the 53-year-old dead in a car. Investigators say he'd been shot.

“He didn't bother nobody. He was fun, and he just stayed to himself, so I don't know why someone would do that to him,” said Linda Bishop.

It’s unclear if he was targeted or not. Police are calling it an "isolated" incident. It's also not clear if he was driving down the road when he was hit. Police say preliminary reports reveal shots were heard near Michigan Avenue and Melrose Street, which is the corner the church is on.

Bishop says his death is the latest blow to her family that's already experienced so much loss in recent years.

“I think he was like the fifth person that died in our family. The only thing we've got left are two of our uncles,” said Linda Bishop.

MPD has not announced a suspect or motive.
