Abilene Christian University will have an opportunity to explore race relations from the beginning of ACU’s time through now.

ACU plans to explore their previous policies and how they have impacted racial relationships on campus for a research project. One of the goals is to see how the university can improve racial relationships by researching the past.

ACU is the fourth Texas school to join the Universities studying slavery. Provost Dr. Robert Rhodes said the research is unassociated with critical-race theory, "It’s unrelated to critical race theory. Really it’s looking at just the history of policies, as well as the current-day application at universities."

Ignoring past oppressions doesn’t ease racial tension today. Dr. Rhodes said taking time to address what happened then can help improve problems now.
