OAKLAND — Murder and other charges have been filed against a man suspected in the hit-and-run death Monday of  a woman who died after she was deliberately struck by a vehicle in East Oakland, according to authorities and court documents.

Marcus Davis, 35, is accused in the death of Barbara Rivera, 39, who suffered fatal injuries about 8:26 a.m. Monday  when she was hit by a car at Foothill Boulevard and Miller Avenue. The hit-and-run was captured on video surveillance in the area which was reviewed by officers.

The vehicle was spotted later by officers at the intersection of East 32nd Street and 14th Avenue where it was stopped and Davis arrested.

Besides the murder count, Davis was also charged Tuesday with two other felonies: assault with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an accident that caused death or serious injury.

Davis, who lives near where the hit-and-run occurred, declined to talk to investigators

Police are still trying to determine if Davis knew Rivera and why she was targeted.  Authorities said Rivera was homeless and frequented the area where she was killed.

Davis is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail and is scheduled to enter a plea to the charges on Nov. 9.
