PROVIDENCE, RI — Lights, camera, action! Filming for Disney's "Hocus Pocus 2" is officially underway in the Ocean State.

The sequel to the beloved Halloween classic again centers on the Sanderson Sisters — a trio of witches played by Bette Midler (Winifred), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah) and Kathy Najimy (Mary), all of whom are returning to reprise the iconic roles. According to the Rhode Island Film and TV Office, the follow-up to the 1993 film follows the story of three young women who accidentally bring the sisters back to life, and chaos ensues.

Gov. Dan McKee said he was "proud and honored that again our beautiful state, with its unique scenery, landscapes and local talent, will be the backdrop for a major motion picture," adding that the production is a boon for the state's economy.

Director Anne Fletcher said "there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film."

“Now more than ever, people need to laugh," she continued. "I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started in the beautiful state of Rhode Island."

The film is set to be released next year.
