Coffee shop coming to Philadelphia Pike in Claymont

Java Bean Cafe is expected to open next month in the shops at Darley Green on Philadelphia Pike in Claymont.

Brett Saddler, director of the Claymont Renaissance Development Corporation, said his organization was in talks with Java Bean's owners for more than a year. Saddler said feedback he's received from the community indicated a strong desire for a local coffee shop.

New plan for nearly 700-home development in Sussex County

A mixed-use development with 697 homes is being planned in Ellendale along Route 113.

Apennine Development Co. submitted project plans to the state late last month. If built the development would include a mix of single-family detached homes, townhomes, apartments, commercial space and storage space spread across more than a dozen buildings.

The community would also include a clubhouse, lake and trails, according to the plans. It would be built on 192 acres of farm land at Route 113 and Route 16. The plans refer to the project as The Enclave at Starwood.

Developer lays out plans for more homes at Middletown community

More than 300 homes will border a 250,000-square-foot shopping center as part of the growing Bayberry communities along Route 896 near Middletown.

Currently, the Bayberry north and south communities take to both sides of Route 896 (Boyds Corner Road) east of Jamison Corner Road. When built out, the communities will have more than 2,000 combined homes, according to plans.

For more than a year, the Bayberry Town Center, a mixed-use development with close to 250,000 square feet of retail space, 145 adjacent townhomes and office space, has been planned west of the existing Bayberry communities and east of Jamison Corner Road.

Now, the plans have been extended to include housing developments on both sides of Bayberry Town Center.

To the west, 184 age-restricted single-family units will be built, according to plans filed earlier this month. To the east, 176 single-family homes without restrictions will be built.

The homes will be built on a combined 153 acres of farm land.
