Jake Cohen is the author of “Jew-ish: Reinvented Recipes from a Modern Mensch.”

Cookbook author Jake Cohen has built a large following online for his twists on classic Jewish recipes. He will be talking about his book “Jew-ish: Reinvented Recipes from a Modern Mensch” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Sarasota. It is described as a cookbook “for Jews who love food and foodies who love Jews.”

His conversation will be presented at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Rd., Sarasota, in a partnership with the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee’s People of the Book series.

Cohen refers to himself as a “nice Jewish boy,” and his work in the kitchen has been described as reinventing food from his Ashkenazi heritage and drawing “inspiration from his husband’s Persian-Iraqi traditions to offer recipes that are modern, fresh and enticing for a whole new generation for readers.”

He has built a following of nearly 600,000 followers. Cookbook author Joan Nathan said Cohen “is the creative, youthful future of Jewish food. There is a thrill in reading and cooking from a book by someone you can hardly keep up with. He is is SO alive, as is his food.”
