2 plead guilty to murder at Canton baseball park
Two men have pleaded guilty to murder in the 2020 fatal shooting in the Canton. A city employee found the body of Dario Jerome Robinson, 35, the morning of Dec. 18, according to police. Robinson was found in the parking lot of the baseball park across from the Canton Sportsplex with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, police said at the time.An investigation involving the Canton Police Department and Madison County Sheriff's Department determined that Tyjerious Sims and Jaheen Harris robbed Robinson of his wallet and car before killing him.Police found Robinson's car outside Canton. Authorities said the suspects had tried to set it on fire. Investigators found the keys to the car at Sim's house. Cellphone analysis tied Sims and Harris to the area during the time of the robbery, prosecutors said. Both men were arrested and prosecutors said they "gave confessions to law enforcement."After Harris was booked into the jail, he assaulted a detention officer, which led to an additional charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, prosecutors said. Harris pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison. He also pleaded guilty to the aggravated assault charge and was sentenced to 10 years to run consecutively to the life sentence.Sims pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, but will be sentenced at a later date. Sims faces up to 40 years without parole.
