A Lexington television host of almost 30 years claims she has been let go for refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

DeAnn Stephens, the former host of "Out & About" at WKYT, said the station's parent company, Gray Television, began requiring COVID-19 vaccines, but she had not gotten one because her doctor recommended against it because of her medical history.

"I have explained my medical history and provided my doctor’s records and her opinion to Gray," she said on Facebook last week. "But sadly Gray has terminated my employment instead."

The news director at WKYT did not immediately return a phone call.

Stephens said she thinks vaccines should be taken by people who think it's best for them and their families, but that those with medical exemptions should be accommodated.

Stephens worked at WKYT for 27 years but also does radio work at 98.1 The Bull. She said audiences can still find her there.
