HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Jeremy Midkiff, 39, of Huntington, was sentenced Monday to 15 months in prison for escape from a halfway house.
According to his own statements and court documents, Midkiff admitted that in October 2020, he left Dismas Charities, Inc., a Bureau of Prisons residential reentry facility located in St. Albans, West Virginia, without permission and did not return while he was still serving an undischarged term of federal imprisonment.
He had been on escape status for approximately eight months before he was apprehended by local law enforcement in connection with unrelated charges in June 2021. Midkiff has underlying federal convictions for felon in possession of a firearm and distribution of fentanyl.
United States Attorney William S. Thompson made the announcement and commended the investigative efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant United States Attorney Negar M. Kordestani handled the prosecution.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence.
