OREM — A fight between a homeowner, her son and a man kicked out of the residence that culminated in gunfire has resulted in a criminal charge.

Zayden Aziz Collins, 18, of Orem, was charged Friday in 4th District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony.

On Monday, a woman stated that a man who used to live in her house was asked to leave, according to charging documents. The man was told he could come back later in the day to collect his belongings, the charges state.

The woman then called her son, Collins, and asked him to help move the man's belongings into the garage so he did not have a reason to enter the house, according to the charges.

When the man came to collect his belongings, he said there was still more inside the house and moved toward the door, the charges state.

"The homeowner stepped in front of the victim to stop him from going into the home and the victim grabbed her by the shoulders and moved to the side to get to the door," according to the charges.

At that point, Collins put the man in a headlock and took out his gun, the charges state. Collins said he hit the man two or three times with the gun. The man then punched Collins, causing his nose to bleed, according to the charges.

"The victim then pushed away from (Collins). (Collins) then said that he racked the slide of the gun, putting a round in the chamber. (He) then fired a round, hitting the victim in the chest and the victim fell on the ground," the charges state.

The man, whose name and age have not been released, was taken to a local hospital. His updated condition was unknown as of Friday.
