Man succumbs to injuries after sleeping bag set on fire while he slept

A man died from his injuries after sleeping in a sleeping bag when it was allegedly set on fire in a seemingly random act of violence, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Last Friday at 5 a.m. San Francisco police responded to a call regarding "aggravated assault with fire" near 25th Street and South Van Ness Avenue.

Once at the scene, they located a 43-year-old man who said his sleeping bag had been set on fire while he was sleeping.

He was afflicted with injuries to the lower half of his body and was taken to a nearby hospital for help. He passed away the following day, according to the Chronicle.

His identity and other information has yet to be released, but his death is being treated as a homicide.

The San Francisco Police Department is looking into the case and there are no suspects yet.
