Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered her first commencement address since being sworn in as governor three weeks ago. It took place at Syracuse University Sunday morning.

Hochul is a SU alumna, graduating in 1980, and took place in the weekend-long celebrations honoring last year's graduating class.

The original in-person commencement scheduled for May 2020 had to be postponed due to public health guidelines.

Hochul acknowledged the challenges that COVID-19 created and commended students for their success despite them.

Hochul continued saying the university helped give her the courage to call out injustices. She says she will continue to call out injustices as governor, including speaking out against Texas's new abortion law.
